I'm about halfway done renter-friendly-renovating our bedroom, and as I've shopped for specific pieces and seen more of the plan come to life, my vision for the rest of it has changed a little bit. You can see my original design plan here. I love how the brick wall, the wood floor and the headboard turned out, and I've painted one nightstand (need to do the other!). The bedding is mostly updated, though I'm still deciding if I'll add a fun quilt on top or some throw pillows for a splash of color.
After seeing the room come together so far, I love how bright and white it is, but I really want to add in a couple of big statements. I put together a couple more designs to think through what would fit the best:
I've never been a big fan of gallery walls, but sometimes I like them if everything is very precise and lined up, so I'm considering something like that above the bed. I'm not sold on this yet, but I do love having photos around the house and being able to change out the photos periodically leaves flexibility to change the feel of the room easily later on. I also like that it would let the headboard stand alone well vs hanging one big piece of art that competes with the headboard spatially. I'm going to play this one by ear! Another option is some kind of macrame hanging if I can find a really really good one that feels upscale modern and not too boho. (love boho, but wouldn't match!)
I also canNOT decide on what kind of rug to include under the end of the bed. I bought two from eSale rugs the other day during their amazing Summer Close Out Sale, and plan on deciding once I see which one looks better in person. One is white with a black pattern and one is a vintage-style deep orangey-red.
Originally I thought that it wasn't in our budget to update the dresser, but I remembered I have these 4 random hairpin legs from another project that didn't work out, so if I make my own TV stand it won't cost too much extra! (To be honest, I also decided to sell a few big things I own to loosen up the budget for new bedroom items, hah!)
I think it would be fun to cover the TV stand in some type of wallpaper to give it a nice texture. I love these terrazzo designs from Etsy. I also plan on filling that space with fake plants so that it feels kind of like a mini plant wall!
I found a great deal on the teal chair pictured above to make the space feel extra homey and to balance out all the orange-y pinks, and I already have a $10 pendant lamp from Target to hang over that spot (couldn't find the exact one available anymore, but very similar to this light from Amazon.)
Lastly, I'm so excited to try using Rit Dye to make a huge curtain on the window side of the room. Originally, I just wanted to find normal curtains to cover the windows, but I thought it would be fun to make it a full floor-to-ceiling, entire-wall curtain for more of a statement. Curtains are pretty pricey normally, but I found this one in white that I'll be dying pink.
On this side of the room, there are currently just some coat hooks, and I originally planned to just update the hooks to some cool ones from Anthropologie. We've had a problem, though, with blankets collecting in a pile right there when we're not using them to stay warm at night. I thought it would be a good idea to make a storage bench for all of the blankets, and while I'm at it I might as well make it a cute one with a blush velvet cushion.
The capsule shapes are gold mirrors that I plan on having custom cut from Ponoko.com. I still need to look into what it will cost, but I'm SO excited about this idea and really hope it can happen. I have been dying to incorporate long, pill-shaped mirrors in my home but they are very surprisingly difficult to find in stores. Luckily, Ponoko has gold mirror acrylic (and every other color you could ever want), so they'll also be lighter, cheaper (I think?) and more durable than glass mirrors.
What do you guys think of these updated plans?! Any other ideas for above the bed?
